SEC Launches Masterplan 2.0 Aiming for ₦750 Trillion Market

The Securities and Exchange Commission officially launched the Capital Market Masterplan 2.0, a ten-year regulatory roadmap set to run through 2036. This initiative aims to overhaul Nigeria's asset formation framework and increase total market capitalisation to ₦750 trillion.
The unveiling occurred during the national capital market conference, with the blueprint designed to anchor economic growth on local savings rather than unstable foreign portfolio inflows. Currently, the combined Nigerian equities and bond markets exceed ₦217 trillion, spurred by a rise in the All-Share Index and increased corporate listings post-reform.
The authorities plan to shift the financial system from short-term bank financing to long-term capital market underwriting. A key component of the masterplan is the National Savings Scheme, which aims to aggregate retail savings, pension funds, and insurance assets for productive infrastructure projects.
Emomotimi Agama, the Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission, stated that sustainable economic expansion requires converting household capital into corporate equity and municipal debt instruments.
