Semi Ajayi Embraces Super Eagles Competition Ahead of AFCON

Semi Ajayi, a 32-year-old defender for Hull City, has expressed his support for the increasing competition within the Super Eagles as preparations intensify for the upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau. Ajayi faces competition for a central defensive position from Calvin Bassey and other defenders.

He believes that the growing pool of quality players will strengthen the national team, stating that it is beneficial to have new players representing Nigeria. Ajayi remarked on the importance of squad depth, particularly when injuries affect player availability.

He is coming off a strong start to the season, having scored in Hull City's 2-0 Premier League victory over Manchester United. Ajayi expressed his ambition to play at the highest level and his determination to help Hull City maintain their Premier League status, acknowledging the challenges ahead but emphasizing the team's successful pre-season preparation.
