Ireti Kingibe Critiques National Assembly's Role

Ireti Kingibe, a senator representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), criticized the National Assembly during an interview on Arise Television on Wednesday. She stated that the legislature is failing to effectively perform its constitutional role of checking the executive arm of government.

Kingibe argued that the National Assembly has increasingly acted as a cooperating arm of the executive instead of functioning as an independent institution responsible for oversight and accountability. She expressed concern that the actions of the legislature are often attributed to the executive's inability to succeed without the Assembly's approval.

Kingibe remarked that the Senate does not effectively perform its constitutional role in checking executive power and noted that lawmakers often place blame solely on the president. This criticism comes amid growing concerns regarding the independence of the National Assembly in its relationship with the current administration.
