Nigeria Plans National Security Summit for 2026

Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, Chairman of the Committee and Leader of the Senate, announced the initiation of planning for a National Security Summit during a committee meeting in Abuja. The summit aims to serve as a national platform for stakeholder engagement and to generate comprehensive recommendations for the Senate and the Executive Arm of Government to enhance Nigeria's security architecture.

Senator Bamidele noted that the summit will build on outcomes from nationwide consultations, providing stakeholders an opportunity to devise practical and sustainable solutions to the country's complex security issues. The proposed National Security Summit is set to take place in September 2026 in Abuja, with President Bola Tinubu expected to officially open the event.

This initiative reflects the Senate's commitment to addressing security challenges through collaborative efforts among government, security sectors, traditional institutions, civil society, and other strategic partners.
