Nigeria's Leaders Advocate Dialogue for National Peace

The Nigerian government is focusing on dialogue as a solution to the country's insecurity challenges. President Bola Tinubu, who assumed office in May 2023, led a meeting of the National Council of State on October 9, 2023, which included prominent figures such as Vice President Kashim Shettima and former presidents Goodluck Jonathan and Olusegun Obasanjo.

The council aims to provide advice to the government on policies to enhance peace and security. The National Peace Committee, established in 2014, plays a crucial role in ensuring free and fair elections and addressing national concerns.

The committee is chaired by former military leader Abdul Salami Abubakar and includes various eminent personalities. The emphasis is on the need for peace in Nigeria, with leaders encouraged to set an example and engage in dialogue rather than conflict.
