Senate and Youth Leaders Unite Against Xenophobia in SA

On Friday, Aniekan Bassei, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Diaspora, reaffirmed the Nigerian Senate's commitment to protecting the rights, safety, and dignity of Nigerians living abroad. This statement was made during a meeting with the National Youth Leaders Forum, where concerns about recurring xenophobic attacks against Nigerians in South Africa were discussed.

Bassei described the safety and welfare of the Nigerian diaspora as a national priority and assured that the Senate would continue to collaborate with relevant government agencies, including the Nigerian Diaspora Commission and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to ensure the protection of Nigerians abroad. He noted the urgent need for sustained diplomatic engagement and proactive policies to prevent xenophobic attacks and promote peace among African nations.

Hon. Ez Onyebuchi Chukwu, Chairman of the forum, expressed concerns about the ongoing threats to the lives and livelihoods of Nigerians in South Africa and called for stronger legislative and diplomatic measures to safeguard their interests.
