SERAP Demands Probe into Police Fraud and Missing Rifles

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has urged President Bola Tinubu to investigate serious allegations of fraud within the Nigeria Police Force, as highlighted by the Auditor-General's findings. The report indicates a potential diversion of N499.8 million at the Police College, N1.9 billion spent on abandoned security projects, and the disappearance of 42 AK-47 rifles.

Additional concerns include the alleged misappropriation of N681 million in insurance funds, N438 million in contracts awarded without due process, and N112 million in irregular allowance payments. SERAP also pointed out the failure to destroy obsolete firearms and the insecure storage of unserviceable firearms.

The organization has set a deadline of seven days for the Federal Government to act on these findings, warning that it will pursue legal action if no response is received. SERAP's request is grounded in Sections 15(5) and 14 of the 1999 Constitution, which mandate the abolition of corrupt practices and the assurance of public security and welfare.
