Shagari Calls for Transparency in Sokoto Grain Sales

Mukhtar Shehu Shagari, a former Deputy Governor of Sokoto State, praised the Sokoto State Government for its initiative to sell grains at subsidised prices, which he described as a timely intervention to mitigate the impact of rising food prices on residents. In a statement released by his media aide, Musa Ubandawaki, Shagari emphasized that this program reflects the government's responsiveness to the economic challenges faced by households, particularly those with low incomes.

He acknowledged the efforts of the committee led by former Deputy Governor Alhaji Chuso Abdullahi Dattijo in ensuring the initiative's success. However, Shagari stressed the need for strict transparency and accountability in the distribution of the subsidised grains, warning against any attempts to divert or unfairly distribute the commodities.

He also called for enhanced monitoring mechanisms to guarantee equitable distribution across the 23 local government areas and urged community leaders to assist in reaching genuine beneficiaries. Shagari expressed optimism that effective oversight would significantly alleviate the hardships faced by families in the state.
