Shari’ah Council Calls for Investigation of Senator Buba

The Supreme Council for Shari’ah in Nigeria (SCSN) has urged a fresh investigation into allegations connecting Senator Shehu Buba Umar to banditry and terrorism. The SCSN's Secretary General, Nafiu Baba Ahmad, emphasized the need for an independent examination by the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) and the Department of State Services (DSS).

The Council expressed concern over the serious nature of the allegations and warned against politicizing national security issues. Senator Buba has rejected the allegations, labeling them as politically motivated and disputing the interpretation of manipulated videos circulated online.

Former Minister of Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung, has called for the DSS to disclose the results of its investigation into the senator's alleged connections with suspected bandit Abubakar Idris. The controversy is sensitive due to Senator Buba’s previous role as Chairman of the Senate Committee on National Security and Intelligence.

The SCSN clarified that its engagement with the senator was part of broader efforts to address insecurity in Nigeria.
