Shettima Returns to Abuja After BRICS Summit in India

Vice-President Kashim Shettima returned to Abuja on Tuesday morning after representing President Bola Tinubu at the 18th BRICS Leaders’ Summit held in New Delhi, India. During the summit, Shettima participated in high-level sessions and engaged in bilateral meetings to promote Nigeria's economic and diplomatic interests.

A significant engagement included a meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, where they discussed various sectors including crude oil trade, investment, pharmaceuticals, defence, digital technology, fintech, and renewable energy. Additionally, Shettima met with Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the Director-General of the World Trade Organisation, to reaffirm Nigeria's commitment to multilateralism and a more inclusive global economic order.

At the summit, Shettima delivered a message from President Tinubu advocating for reforms in global governance and financial institutions, positioning Nigeria as a gateway to Africa's expanding market under the African Continental Free Trade Area. The summit also served as a platform for Nigeria to enhance its collaboration with BRICS member countries in sectors such as agriculture, artificial intelligence, and healthcare.
