Shettima Begins Two-Week Leave, Returns August 20

Vice President Kashim Shettima began a two-week leave on August 6, 2023, which was approved by President Bola Tinubu. This leave marks Shettima's first since taking office on May 29, 2023.

According to a statement from Stanley Nkwocha, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications, the leave is intended for study, reflection, and intellectual renewal to bolster Shettima's capacity for continued national service. During this period, he will review ongoing government programs, deepen his understanding of national and global policy issues, and prepare for future responsibilities as the Federal Government advances the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Since assuming office, Shettima has been actively involved in various strategic government initiatives, including economic development, food security, and humanitarian affairs. He chairs the National Economic Council, which includes governors and public officials discussing economic policy.

Shettima is expected to resume his official duties on or around August 20, 2023.
