Shettima Attends 69th ECOWAS Summit in Sierra Leone

On July 19, 2026, Kashim Shettima, the Vice President of Nigeria, departed Abuja to participate in the 69th ECOWAS summit held in Freetown, Sierra Leone. The summit, hosted by Julius Maada Bio, is expected to address critical policy decisions aimed at reaffirming collective commitments to peace, democracy, and economic growth within the West African region.

Stanlei Nkwocha, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communication, is involved in the summit's preparations. This mid-year statutory meeting will bring together heads of state, government ministers, and senior officials from the region to discuss shared priorities, including security, democratic governance, economic integration, trade, infrastructure, and sustainable development.

The Vice President is anticipated to return to Abuja following the conclusion of the summit.
