Shettima, Fubara commission 33.5km dual carriageway in Rivers

Vice President Kashim Shettima travelled to Rivers State on Thursday to officially open the Elele-Egbeda-Omoku Dual Carriageway, a 33.5-kilometre road project commissioned jointly with Governor Siminalayi Fubara. Shettima arrived at Port Harcourt International Airport where Fubara received him alongside state cabinet members, federal lawmakers, ministers and senior officials.

During the ceremony, Shettima framed the project as part of President Bola Tinubu's broader strategy to distribute infrastructure investment and economic growth across Nigeria beyond the country's traditional economic centres. The Vice President stated that the administration is deliberately directing such development to reduce urban overcrowding, generate employment opportunities, and achieve more equitable national development.

He linked the initiative to what the government describes as its Renewed Hope Agenda, which encompasses security, welfare and economic expansion. The dual carriageway connects several communities in Rivers State's hinterland, with sources noting its role in improving regional connectivity and facilitating commercial activity.

The project represents one of several infrastructure commitments the federal government has undertaken in Rivers State, where political tensions between the state government and the federal administration have been documented in recent years. Shettima's visit underscores ongoing federal-state collaboration on development matters.

The Vice President arrived in Rivers following a two-week leave and attended the road inauguration as part of formal duties representing the presidency during major state-level events.
