Shettima Advocates for UN Reform and Education Funding

Senator Kashim Shettima, the Vice President of Nigeria, returned to Abuja after departing on September 20 to attend the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). During the assembly, Shettima delivered President Bola Tinubu’s National Statement, where Nigeria called for reforms in the UN Security Council, advocating for permanent African representation, fairer global financing, stronger climate support, and enhanced multilateral cooperation.

He participated in the Third High-Level Roundtable of the Africa Minerals Strategy Group, where President Tinubu emphasized the need for African nations to transition from raw mineral exports to processing and value addition. At a high-level education financing event co-hosted by Nigeria and Italy, Shettima reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to education as a vital investment in national prosperity and supported the Global Partnership for Education’s $5 billion financing campaign.

He also engaged with Nigerians in the Diaspora and held meetings with the new leadership of the ECOWAS Commission and UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed, promoting Nigeria’s positions on development financing, regional integration, and peace.
