Singapore Mandates Caning for Online Scammers Amid Cybercrime Crackdown

Singapore has introduced mandatory caning for online scammers as part of a crackdown on cybercrime syndicates. The country, facing significant losses due to scams, will impose at least six strokes of the cane on convicted offenders.

The move comes amidst a rise in scam cases, with the government targeting syndicate members and accomplices involved in profit scams. The Singaporean police recently seized assets linked to Chen Zhi, accused of operating a forced labor scam in Cambodia.

Former Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong acknowledged the growing threat of cyber scams in the country.
