LAWMA Clears Four-Month-Old Refuse Heaps in Lagos

The Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has successfully cleared refuse heaps that had been present on road medians along the Ejigbo-Idimu axis of Lagos State for approximately four months. The refuse, particularly around the Dorcas and Church bus stops, was removed after PUNCH Metro reported residents' concerns regarding the prolonged neglect.

Residents had been complaining since May about the accumulation of waste, which had remained despite their repeated complaints to waste managers and relevant authorities. A follow-up visit confirmed that the heaps had been cleared, significantly improving the cleanliness of the affected areas.

Residents expressed relief over the clearance, with one, identified as Sesan, commending the action but urging for regular waste evacuation to prevent future issues. Another anonymous resident noted that the intervention alleviated concerns among road users.

This development follows a statement from LAWMA's Managing Director, Muyiwa Gbadegesin, who assured residents that the issue of refuse heaps would soon be addressed through strategic interventions.
