SOGON Advocates for Ferric Carboxymaltose in Nigeria

The Society of Gynaecology and Obstetrics of Nigeria (SOGON) has called on the Federal Government and relevant authorities to approve and integrate Ferric carboxymaltose injection into Nigeria’s healthcare system to address maternal anaemia and reduce pregnancy-related deaths. During a stakeholders’ roundtable in Abuja on Tuesday, SOGON President Prof Okechukwu Ikpeze stated that anaemia affects over half of women attending antenatal clinics and increases the risk of complications during pregnancy and childbirth.

He emphasized that Ferric carboxymaltose effectively corrects anaemia and is crucial for reducing maternal mortality. The dialogue included officials from the Federal Ministry of Health, NAFDAC, and other stakeholders to discuss the drug's adoption.
