Sokoto Governor Launches 2026 Malaria Prevention Campaign

On Wednesday, Governor Dr. Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State officially launched the 2026 seasonal malaria prevention campaign in Wamakko, reaffirming his commitment to combat malaria.

He praised the efforts of the Commissioner of Health, Dr. Faruk Wurno, and the Sokoto State Malaria Elimination Agency, along with development partners such as the National Malaria Elimination Programme and Malaria Consortium.

Governor Aliyu noted that malaria remains a significant public health issue, particularly during the rainy season when mosquito breeding increases. He stated that the seasonal malaria prevention strategy, which involves administering monthly doses of anti-malaria vaccines to children aged 3 to 59 months, could reduce malaria cases by up to 75%, leading to fewer hospital visits.

Additionally, he commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his efforts to alleviate the burden of malaria and improve public health. Dr.

Faruk Wurno also mentioned that the health sector is aligned with Governor Aliyu's 9-Point Smart Agenda, resulting in positive health outcomes across the state.
