Bauchi State Launches 2026 Wet Farming Season Initiatives

On Tuesday, the Bauchi State Government officially flagged off the 2026 wet farming season and launched the sale of subsidised fertiliser and agricultural inputs in Bununu, the headquarters of Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area. Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed led the ceremonies, reaffirming his administration's commitment to agriculture as a cornerstone of the state's economic development.

He acknowledged farmers as vital contributors to food security and economic growth, stating that agriculture is essential for job creation and poverty reduction. Governor Mohammed highlighted various initiatives implemented since he took office in 2019, including the development of a comprehensive agricultural policy and revitalisation of the Bauchi State Agricultural Development Programme (BASDP).

He announced that the state government would sell fertiliser at a subsidised price of N20,000 per bag, despite the production cost being N38,000, to alleviate the burden on farmers. The governor also mentioned efforts to improve agricultural mechanisation, irrigation farming, and support for youth and women in agribusiness.
