Sokoto ADC Candidate Supports Atiku's Border Reopening Plan

Hon. Manir Muhammad Dan’Iya, the African Democratic Congress governorship candidate in Sokoto State, expressed his support for Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the party's 2027 presidential candidate, regarding the plan to reopen Nigeria's land borders if elected. Dan’Iya stated that this policy would revive legitimate cross-border trade, improve livelihoods, and alleviate economic hardship for communities in Sokoto that share a border with Niger Republic.

In a statement from his Media Aide, Aminu Abdullahi, Dan’Iya emphasized the historical reliance of border communities on legitimate trade and movement. He argued that reopening the borders with effective customs, immigration, and security controls would benefit traders, farmers, transporters, and small businesses.

Dan’Iya also linked economic recovery to improved security, advocating for an intelligence-led approach to tackle worsening insecurity in the North-West. He stressed that reopening borders should not compromise security or facilitate smuggling, asserting that a government must facilitate legitimate trade while combating crime.

Dan’Iya urged Nigerians, especially those in border areas, to consider the ADC's proposals ahead of the 2027 elections.
