Sokoto Agency to Enroll 39,000 Workers in Health Scheme

The Sokoto State Contributory Health Management Agency (SOCHEMA) announced plans to enroll between 38,500 and 39,000 civil servants in its health insurance scheme to improve access to affordable healthcare in Sokoto State. Alhaji Yusuf Abu Abdulkarim, the Director-General of SOCHEMA, revealed that preparations for the formal-sector program are 90 to 95 percent complete, with consultations finalized with approximately 50 affiliated labor unions.

Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) have been signed with the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), and the agency is now awaiting a formal commencement date. The health insurance scheme will cover each civil servant, their spouse, and four biological children under 18 years, totaling six beneficiaries per family package.

Additional dependants will incur an annual premium ranging from N12,000 to N20,000. SOCHEMA was established in 2018 and has been fully operational since 2021, with a mandate to ensure quality healthcare access for residents of Sokoto State.
