Solar Power Nigeria, GIFSEP Launch Media Grant Initiative

Solar Power Nigeria and the Global Initiative for Food Security and Ecosystem Preservation (GIFSEP) launched a media grant initiative on Friday in Abuja, aimed at strengthening renewable energy journalism across Nigeria. The program will support 16 selected journalists from print, online, television, and radio organizations with grants worth several million naira.

These journalists are expected to produce original research and impact reports focusing on solar power and its contribution to Nigeria's energy future. Joseph Ibrahim from Solar Power Nigeria emphasized the critical role of media in shaping public understanding of energy access and the ongoing energy transition.

The grant reflects the organizations' commitment to equipping Nigerian journalists with the resources needed to tell energy stories with greater depth and accuracy. Despite growing interest in renewable energy, there remains a significant gap in sustainable reporting on complex energy policies and market developments.

The selected journalists are expected to publish and broadcast their stories within four weeks of receiving the grant.
