Journalists Empowered to Promote Solar Energy in Nigeria

Sixteen journalists have been awarded grants totaling several million naira to produce investigative reports focused on the impact of solar energy adoption in Nigeria. This initiative, launched in Abuja, aims to deepen public understanding of renewable energy and support the country's transition to cleaner energy sources.

The program is a partnership designed to strengthen energy journalism, with beneficiaries selected through a competitive process from print, online, television, and radio organizations. The grant will enable journalists to examine opportunities and challenges associated with solar energy adoption across the country.

Ibrahim, a representative from Solar Power Nigeria, underscored the growing recognition of the media's role in driving awareness, influencing policy, and attracting investment in the renewable energy sector. Despite increasing interest in clean energy, the sector remains underfunded, leaving many Nigerians without adequate information on policy, technology, and financing opportunities within the renewable energy ecosystem.

The initiative represents a significant step toward leveraging journalism to support Nigeria's transition to a low-carbon, sustainable energy future.
