South Korea Expands Smart Entry Service to 18 Nations

South Korea's Ministry of Justice announced an expansion of its Smart Entry Service, increasing the number of eligible countries from 4 to 18. This automated immigration clearance system is designed to alleviate congestion at immigration checkpoints and expedite entry for international visitors from the qualifying nations.

To utilize the automated lanes, travelers must be at least 17 years old and possess a valid passport from one of the newly listed countries or territories. The expansion reflects South Korea's efforts to modernize its border management infrastructure in response to the growing volume of international arrivals.

Notably, the updated list includes countries from Europe, the Asia-Pacific region, and the Middle East, but excludes any African nations. Consequently, travelers from Ghana, Kenya, South Africa, and other African countries will continue to use standard immigration channels upon arrival in South Korea.

This absence of African countries from the eligibility list is significant amid ongoing discussions about travel access and visa facilitation for African passport holders.
