South Korea Demands North Korea Stop Border Work and Apologize

South Korea has called for North Korea to immediately halt its construction and fortification activities near the inter-Korean border. The demand comes from South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff, which also requested an apology from Pyongyang regarding a mine blast that injured three South Korean soldiers on September 21.

An investigation by South Korea concluded that North Korean mines were highly likely responsible for the explosion near the Military Demarcation Line. South Korea characterized the ongoing border fortification work as a violation of the armistice framework and warned that continued activities could escalate tensions on the Korean Peninsula.

In response, North Korea has dismissed the accusations from South Korea concerning the mine incident, labeling the findings as a fabrication.
