Okechukwu Calls for Legislative Action on Independence Issues

Hon. Chieme Okechukwu, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Orlu/Orsu/Oru East Federal Constituency of Imo State, stated that the National Assembly must enact laws to strengthen institutions, protect citizens, expand economic opportunities, and ensure accountability for Nigeria's independence to yield tangible benefits. In a statement issued in Abuja to commemorate Nigeria's 66th Independence anniversary, Okechukwu highlighted the persistent challenges facing the nation, including insecurity, unemployment, poverty, inequality, and inadequate infrastructure.

He emphasized the critical role of the National Assembly in addressing these issues through effective legislation and oversight. Okechukwu expressed concern over the growing disappointment among citizens regarding Independence celebrations due to ongoing misgovernance.

He shared his experience living in an advanced economy, noting how democratic institutions can enhance public welfare. Okechukwu's decision to run for the House of Representatives is motivated by his desire to improve Nigeria's governance system, despite his professional commitments in the United States.
