Sowore Withdraws DSS DG as Witness in Defamation Trial
Omoyele Sowore, an online publisher and presidential candidate of the African Alliance Congress (AAC), has retracted his intention to invite Oluwatosin Adeola Ajayi, the Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS), as a witness in his ongoing trial for alleged criminal defamation of President Bola Tinubu. On Tuesday, Sowore informed the Federal High Court in Abuja that the evidence he sought from the DSS boss could be obtained from another official of the Service.
This marks the first time the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, led the prosecution on behalf of the federal government. Fagbemi objected to the subpoena for the DSS boss, arguing that the document in question was authored by another individual, Uwen Davis, who had already testified in the case.
The presiding judge, Muhammed Umar, adjourned the matter until Monday, August 3, for the continuation of Sowore's defense.
