Sowore Opens Defense in Defamation Suit Against Tinubu

Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, opened his defense on a defamation suit against President Bola Tinubu, alleging that Tinubu is a criminal through a Facebook post. Sowore, who pleaded not guilty, had his bail revoked last month but was granted bail again last week by Justice Moham Umar of the Federal High Court in Abuja, set at N200 million with two sureties.
However, Sowore failed to meet the bail conditions, which included depositing his international passport with the court. Prosecutor Mr.
T Kehinde informed the court that Sowore had not fulfilled the bail conditions, leading to his remand at Kuje Correctional Centre. Sowore's lawyer, Mr.
Olumide Fusika, argued that the bail conditions were not punitive and assured the court that the passport would be deposited. The trial is adjourned until July 13, where Sowore's first witness, lawyer Deji Adeyanju, is expected to testify.
