Sowore Claims Credit for Tinubu's Transport Fare Cuts

Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), has asserted that the Federal Government's recent initiative to lower transportation costs is a result of pressure from his party. This statement follows President Bola Tinubu's directive to deploy an additional 500 compressed natural gas (CNG) refuelling stations across Nigeria, aiming to expand the network to 1,000 stations.

Tinubu announced this initiative after a meeting with the Governors’ Forum, where governors agreed to implement measures to reduce transport costs by promoting CNG-powered and electric vehicles. Sowore criticized former vice-president Atiku Abubakar for attempting to take credit for the pressure on the Tinubu administration regarding fuel prices and subsidy policies.

He claimed that the AAC's firm stance against the removal of fuel subsidy at the Nigerian Bar Association Annual General Conference in Port Harcourt was pivotal in prompting the government's actions. Sowore accused Atiku of changing his position on fuel subsidy to align with the growing opposition to the government's policies.
