Sowore Critiques Tinubu, Amaechi, Obi on Fuel Subsidy

On August 24, 2023, during a session at the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) conference in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Omoyele Sowore, a presidential candidate and human rights activist, launched a strong critique against President Bola Tinubu, former Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi, and former Anambra State governor Peter Obi regarding the removal of fuel subsidy. Sowore accused these politicians of misleading the public about the advantages of subsidy removal and demanded accountability for the resources saved from this policy.

He stated that he has consistently opposed the subsidy removal and emphasized that the elite, particularly state governors, are the primary beneficiaries of the subsidy system. Sowore recalled historical instances of subsidy removals since 1989, asserting that promises of improved economic conditions have not materialized.

He warned Nigerians against accepting misleading narratives from politicians and criticized Amaechi's past projects as misallocation of public resources that could have supported social programs.
