Laia Lopez Leads Spain to U-20 Women's World Cup Victory

Spain claimed the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup title by defeating the defending champions, Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPR Korea), 4-3 on penalties after a goalless draw in Łódź, Poland. Spain goalkeeper Laia Lopez was pivotal, saving two penalties during the shootout, denying Choe Yon-A and Pak Il-Sim.

Throughout the match, Lopez also made crucial saves, including blocking an effort from Ho Kyong in the first half. Spain's Pau Comendador and Marisa Garcia threatened DPR Korea's defense, but goalkeeper Pak Ju-Gyong made significant saves to keep the match scoreless.

This victory marks Spain's second FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup title, following their first in 2022 in Costa Rica. Spain coach David Aznar expressed pride in his players, describing the win as a culmination of a successful cycle.
