Senegal Coach Urges Fans to Stop Fundraisers After CAF Sanctions

Senegal's coach, Pape Bouna Thiaw, has requested fans to halt fundraisers organized in his name following sanctions from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) after the AFCON 2025 final. Thiaw led Senegal to victory in the final against Morocco but was handed a five-match suspension and a $100,000 fine by CAF's disciplinary board for unsporting conduct that brought the game into disrepute.

The sanctions stemmed from a controversial scene in the final where Thiaw ordered his players off the pitch to protest against a late match decision. Thiaw expressed gratitude for the support but asked for the funds to be directed to genuine causes instead.

The disciplinary decisions also included fines for the Senegalese Football Federation and Moroccan players and officials involved in the incident.
