SSANU Receives Eight Months’ Salary Arrears from FG

The Federal Government (FG) has released eight months’ salary arrears owed to members of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), following a 14-day ultimatum issued by the union. SSANU National President, Comrade Mohammed Haruna Ibrahim, confirmed that members would soon receive alerts regarding the payments.
The union had warned that failure to address its demands could lead to a “total, comprehensive and indefinite strike action.” The payment was part of the implementation of the 2026 FGN/SSANU Agreement and was confirmed shortly after SSANU's 56th National Executive Council (NEC) meeting at the University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. Despite the payment easing tensions, SSANU still demands the payment of two months’ salaries withheld during the 2022 industrial action and one year of arrears from salary increases.
Ibrahim urged members to ensure prompt payment of the released funds and report any discrepancies. The union commended Minister of Education Tunji Alausa for facilitating the release and called for the settlement of all remaining entitlements.
