Super Falcons Aim for Title Defense at WAFCON 2026

The 2026 TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) will commence on July 26 in Morocco, marking a significant milestone as the tournament expands from 12 to 16 participating nations for the first time. The opening match will feature Algeria against Senegal at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat.

This edition of WAFCON is crucial as it serves as Africa's qualifying tournament for the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil in 2027. The Super Falcons of Nigeria, the defending champions, aim to secure their 10th continental title.

They will face strong competition from host nation Morocco, former champions South Africa, and emerging contenders like Cameroon, Algeria, and Ghana. CAF President Dr.

Patrice Motsepe has emphasized the importance of this expansion as part of a broader strategy to enhance women's football across Africa, with increased prize money for the tournament winner rising from USD 150,000 to USD 1 million.
