IMC Faces Criticism Over Delayed Leadership Transition

The Unification and Interim Management Committee (IMC) for Nigerian Football and Sports Groups, led by five club presidents, is under fire for failing to fulfill its mandate to unite the country's supporters clubs and transition to a democratically elected executive. The IMC was established under a Memorandum of Understanding effective February 13, 2025, which stipulated a one-year term that could not be renewed.

As of September 2026, over seven months past the deadline, no elections have been held, and the same five presidents remain in power without accountability. The IMC cites structural challenges due to the separate registration of supporters clubs with the Corporate Affairs Commission and the Super Eagles' failure to qualify for the FIFA World Cup as reasons for the delay.

However, critics argue these are administrative challenges the IMC should address. Conflicting public statements from the IMC regarding election preparations have further fueled frustration among stakeholders.
