Supreme Court Dismisses PDP's Turaki Faction Appeal

On Thursday, the Supreme Court dismissed the second appeal filed by the Tanimu Turaki-led faction of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) concerning the party's leadership dispute. The court ruled that the appeal, which sought to validate the faction's claims following the PDP's national convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State, on November 15-16, 2025, lacked merit.

The decision was delivered by a split judgment of 3-2, with Justice Stephen Adah reading the major decision. The court noted that the appeal was filed in defiance of a prior judgment from the Federal High Court delivered by Justice Jame Omotosho, which had already addressed the leadership issue.

The Supreme Court characterized the Turaki faction's move to approach the court as an abuse of court process, affirming that their actions violated an existing court order regarding the Ibadan convention. This ruling continues the prolonged legal dispute within the PDP.
