Suspected Herdsmen Attack School, Destroy Yams in Benue

On Thursday, suspected herdsmen attacked L.G.E. Primary School in Akombo, located near Ayiim in the Logo Local Government Area of Benue State.

The attackers reportedly set ablaze a classroom block, resulting in significant damage to the school infrastructure. Additionally, they destroyed seed yams stored nearby, exacerbating agricultural concerns in the region.

Eyewitness accounts indicated that gunshots were heard during the incident, causing panic among local residents who fled for safety. This attack has heightened fears among farmers regarding access to their farmlands, as such incidents have become recurrent in the area.

Hulega Keghter Kenneth expressed relief that no lives were lost but emphasized the growing uncertainty affecting agricultural activities. Residents are calling for a stronger security presence to restore confidence in the community.

As of the time of this report, the Benue State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Udem Edet, could not be reached for confirmation of the incident.
