Svitolina Reaches Toronto Semifinals with Strong Win

Elina Svitolina, the No 9 seed and 2017 champion, reached the semifinals of the National Bank Open in Toronto on Monday night by defeating Ekaterina Alexandrova in a three-set match. Svitolina extended her unbeaten streak in WTA 1000 matches to 10 with a final score of 3-6, 6-0, 6-3.

The match lasted 1 hour and 33 minutes. Alexandrova initially took the lead by winning the first set 6-3, but Svitolina responded by winning 11 of the next 12 games, claiming the second set 6-0 and establishing a 5-1 lead in the final set.

Although Alexandrova managed to reduce the deficit to 5-3, Svitolina broke her serve in the ninth game to secure the victory. After the match, Svitolina commented on Alexandrova's strong serving and her own adjustments that helped her regain momentum.

Svitolina's next opponent will be No 7 seed Iga Swiate, who won her earlier match against Diana Shnaider in straight sets.
