Sabalenka Falls to Alexandrova at Canadian Open

In the fourth round of the Canadian Open held in Toronto on Saturday, world number one Aryna Sabalenka was defeated by Russia’s Ekaterina Alexandrova with a score of 7-6(3), 4-6, 6-4. This match, lasting nearly two and a half hours, marked a setback for Sabalenka as she prepares for the U.S.

Open winner, Sabalenka struggled against Alexandrova's aggressive play. After losing the first set in a tiebreak, Sabalenka managed to take the second set, but Alexandrova maintained her composure in the final set.

Sabalenka saved two match points while serving at 4-5, but a double fault on the third match point led to her defeat. Alexandrova expressed her determination during the match, stating she focused on playing each point without dwelling on the score.

With this victory, Alexandrova advances to face Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina, who defeated Amanda Anisimova 6-2, 6-4.
