SWAN Chairman Advocates AI Adoption for Journalists

Shehu Abdullahi, the Chairman of the Kaduna State chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), called on sports journalists to embrace emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and data journalism during the 2026 SWAN National Triennial Delegates Congress held in Kaduna from August 26 to August 29, 2026. Abdullahi highlighted the necessity for journalists to enhance their skills in digital journalism, investigative reporting, and ethical reporting to remain relevant in the evolving media landscape.

He stressed the importance of professionalism, accuracy, fairness, and integrity in journalism, especially in light of the rapid growth of social media and misinformation. Abdullahi urged SWAN members to prioritize collective interests over personal ambitions and to approach the leadership transition with maturity and sportsmanship.

He also called for improved welfare and professional development for sports writers and expressed gratitude to the SWAN national leadership and local stakeholders for their support in hosting the congress.
