SWDC Launches Rural Transformation Projects in Nigeria

The Southwest Development Commission (SWDC) has initiated rural transformation projects by inaugurating an action committee tasked with developing a framework for the Rural Transformation Program. This program aims to deliver pilot projects within 180 days, laying the groundwork for scaling initiatives across the region.

The committee, co-led by Dr. Charl Diji Akinola and Prof.

Oyebanji Oyelanran Oyeyinka, will ensure rapid project execution and stakeholder engagement to measure impact. The structure of the committee is anchored around four pillars designed to de-risk execution, including partnerships with development finance institutions such as the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the Bank of Industry (BOI).

The initiative also involves collaboration with local agricultural leaders and technical experts to mobilize resources and deliver pilot projects in Ogbomoso, Osun State. The committee's immediate mandate includes coordinating partnerships across federal and state levels, as well as the private sector, to develop a sustainable framework replicable across 137 local government areas in Southwest Nigeria.
