Nigeria Cracks Down on Fake Credentials with National Verification System

Nigeria faces the challenge of combating the proliferation of fake credentials across various sectors, including fake medical personnel, teachers, and public officials. The absence of reliable databases and corruption in government institutions have facilitated the spread of individuals with fraudulent qualifications.

To address this issue, the federal government mandated all Ministries, Departments, Agencies (MDAs), and military formations to verify the academic credentials of their staff through the National Credential Verification Service (NCVS). This system aims to certify the authenticity of academic documents and assign a unique National Credential Number (NCN) linked to verified credentials, enhancing oversight and preventing the appointment of unqualified individuals in critical positions.
