Nigeria's Olayinka Babalola Takes Rotary Leadership in 2026

The 117th Rotary International Convention was held in Taipei, Taiwan, from June 13 to June 17, 2026, under the theme "Build Connect." This event marked the second time Taipei hosted the convention, the first being in 1994. The convention brought together approximately 35,000 Rotarians and Rotaractors from around the world, representing 200 countries.

Outgoing Rotary International President Francesco Arezzo emphasized the convention's role in fostering unity and generating new ideas for a healthier, peaceful future. Taiwanese President Lai Ching-te met with Rotary leaders to express support for the convention's vision of peace.

Olayinka Hakeem Babalola was introduced as the incoming president for the 2026-2027 Rotary year, which begins on July 1, 2026. Babalola, who has dedicated decades to Rotary service, was presented alongside his family during the closing session, symbolizing Nigeria's growing influence in global Rotary leadership.

The convention featured various sessions and cultural showcases, highlighting Rotary's commitment to humanitarian efforts worldwide.
