Tanzania Eases Visa Process for Nigerian Travellers in 2026

The Tanzania Immigration Services Department announced on September 25, 2026, that Nigerian travellers will no longer require special immigration clearance when applying for visas, as Nigeria has been removed from the Referred Visa Category. This change, effective immediately, follows amendments in Government Gazette No. 246 of 2026.

The announcement was made by ACI Paul Mselle, the Chief Spokesperson of the department, via their X account. Under the new arrangement, Nigerian nationals will adhere to Tanzania’s standard visa application process, which can be completed through the official immigration online portal or at designated entry points.

Previously, Nigerians had to obtain approval from the Commissioner General of Immigration and were advised to submit applications at least two months prior to their travel dates. It is important to note that this removal does not make travel to Tanzania visa-free for Nigerian passport holders, as visa applications can still be made online or via visa-on-arrival services, with a recommendation to apply online before travelling.
