Taraba Muslim council bans wedding parties

The Muslim Council of Taraba State has announced a ban on wedding parties within the state capital, Jalingo. The decision was made after consultations with Islamic clerics, traditional rulers, and local authorities.

The ban specifically targets the popular gatherings known as Kauyawa and Ajo parties, which are characterized by large crowds of youth dancing late into the night. Imam Tajudeen Nuhu, the Chief Imam of Mayo Gwoi Jummat Mosque, conveyed the directive on behalf of the council, stating that it is now forbidden for households to hold these parties as a form of wedding celebration in Jalingo.

Severe sanctions will be imposed on anyone who violates the ban, including those who defy the ruling and find an imam to conduct a marriage contract. The council emphasized the importance of strict compliance with the new regulation to promote discipline, morality, and respect for Islamic values within the community.
