Tax Ombud to Launch Taxpayer Bill of Rights Soon

The Office of the Tax Ombud, under the leadership of Chief Executive Dr John Nwabueze, announced plans to unveil the Taxpayer Bill of Rights, which is ready and awaiting final approvals from the Ministry of Finance and the Presidency. This announcement was made during a stakeholders’ engagement event in Lagos, themed ‘Promoting Fairness, Transparency and Trust in Tax Administration in Nigeria.’ The event included representatives from the Nigerian Bar Association, the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, and the Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association.

Nwabueze emphasized the importance of collaboration among stakeholders to improve tax administration and taxpayer confidence. He stated that the Office of the Tax Ombud has established governance structures, complaint-handling procedures, and initiated taxpayer education programs.

Furthermore, he called for a coordinated national taxpayer education campaign involving various sectors to strengthen the tax system's integrity and public trust.
