Abia Revenue Service Seals Globacom Offices Over Tax Issues

The Abia Revenue Service has sealed the offices of Globacom Limited in Umuahia and Aba following the company's failure to comply with a court order regarding tax remittance. This enforcement action was disclosed in a press release signed by Emel Akunna Loveth, Deputy Director of Information at the Abia State Board of Internal Revenue.

The court order, issued in suit no HU 225M 2025, was delivered on January 14, 2026, and directs Globacom to remit a total of N4,048,748,880.00, which represents unremitted withholding tax liabilities covering the period from 2010 to 2022. Additionally, the court ordered the telecommunications firm to pay an extra ten percent annual interest on the outstanding tax liability from the date it became due until full payment is made.

The court has also granted an order of distraint against Globacom's goods and premises within Abia State, empowering the revenue board and its agents to enforce recovery in accordance with the provisions of the Abia State Tax Codification Consolidated Law 2020. Meanwhile, Globacom has expressed a desire for an amicable resolution of the tax matter with the Abia State Revenue Agency.
