TCN Declares Force Majeure After Tower Collapse in Kebbi

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) declared Force Majeure on the 132kV Birnin Kebbi–Niamey Transmission Line following the collapse of three transmission towers (T109, T110, and T111) due to heavy rain and windstorm at Chibike Village. The incident occurred on August 26, 2026, with the line tripping at 17:38hrs and a subsequent trial reclosure at 18:03hrs failing.

Force Majeure allows TCN to be excused from certain obligations due to extraordinary circumstances. The collapse has disrupted bulk electricity transmission to Niamey, and TCN has mobilized personnel and resources to begin rehabilitation work.

The duration of the disruption is contingent on the speed of the rehabilitation efforts. TCN has been facing weather-related damage to its transmission infrastructure during the rainy season and has been conducting planned maintenance across its network.
