TCN Refutes EKEDP Claims on Lekki Transformer Incident

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) issued a statement on Thursday, dismissing claims made by Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDP) about an unexpected outage at the Lekki Transmission Substation. TCN clarified that the incident, which occurred at 4:34 a.m. on August 26, 2026, involved the simultaneous tripping of EKEDP’s Oniru 33kV and Agungi 33kV feeders due to overcurrent and earth fault.

This led to the inter-tripping of TCN’s TR1 60MVA, 132/33kV transformer’s primary and secondary breakers, accompanied by a heavy bang and smoke. TCN's maintenance crew promptly repaired the damaged secondary breaker and restored both breakers the same day.

However, when EKEDP attempted to close its Oniru feeder, the same relay indications caused another trip, necessitating further corrective work. TCN emphasized that no outage occurred on its T11 transformer, as claimed by EKEDP, and assured affected electricity consumers that it was addressing the fault while reaffirming its commitment to strengthening the transmission network.
