TCN and EKEDC Clash Over Lekki Power Outage

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has reported a power outage in Lekki, Lagos, attributing the disruption to faults in Eko Electricity Distribution Company's (EKEDC) Oniru 33kV and Agungi 33kV feeders, which tripped simultaneously at 4:34 am on August 26. TCN clarified that the incident was not due to a fault at its transformer at the Lekki Transmission Substation, countering claims made by EKEDC.

The tripping was caused by overcurrent and an earth fault, which led to an inter-tripping of TCN's primary and secondary breakers connected to its TR1 60MVA, 132/33kV transformer. Following the incident, TCN's maintenance personnel rehabilitated the damaged equipment and restored the breakers the same day.

However, issues resurfaced when EKEDC attempted to trial close the Oniru feeder, causing another trip. TCN emphasized that its T11 transformer did not experience an outage and that the disruption was linked to EKEDC's feeders.

TCN's technical team remained on-site to restore electricity supply to affected customers.
